2nd harmonics for the masses

Yet*Another*Get*Set*Go

I recently completed my Get*Set*Go. Many thanks to all who have posted great pics and recommendations. Thanks to Shannon for some tips via email.

I used a Hammond walnut chassis, FPE custom panel.

Tubes: Russian 6C4C, Russian 6S4S (6SL7), GE 6AX5GT - all NOS.

It sounds great.

Next projects:

Refurbing a pair of KLH 17's.

Building budgie line/phono preamp.

Dusting off my old Luxman turntable...

Very nice indeed!

What model Edcor transformers did you use?

EDCORS:

Power - XPWR005-120

Output - GXSE15-8-5K

Things I might have done differently:

- Orient Edcors so that output labels face outboard. Never considered that the tubes would obscure the label

- Mount output tubes farther from the transformers

That said, very happy with the way it looks.

One thing I haven't quite decided: Would it be safe to place the original top plate from Hammond on the bottom of the amp? If heat is not an issue would like to just close it up but....

Thinking of putting a small spacer there to give some airflow but keep fingers out. I may let my daughter use this at college - don't want to take a risk.

Tom - thanks for all your posts. I even started my panel with your original design you posted and just modified it for size and different components..

Would you email me your FPE file? I'll upload it along with this thread.

I don't think heat will be a problem with a closed bottom.
I used perforated stainless steel bottoms on the wooden based
get*set*go's ... but built a bunch more in steel Hammond
chassis with no problems. All of the components are
conservatively rated and run pretty cool.

Done - also if anyone wants to know part #'s let me know. Some are different from typical sourcing.

Hi there. I'm following the same path you took with the Edcor transformers and I'm just a few wires away. In your pictures, it looks like you've tied the plate and screen wires together. Am I seeing this correctly? Thanks!

The 6B4G is a Triode ... no screen. Just 4 leads, fil/fil, plate, grid.

Thanks Tom. I'm just a newbie overwhelmed by a mountain of new terms to learn! I'm about to fire up a new GSG in 5 mins then. I'll post the build thread here on DIYTUBE if it doesn't go up in flames.
