Rev E parts list question

Postby DonB » Sun Dec 14, 2014 7:23 pm

I'm starting to order parts for a ST35 rev E board and have run into a snag with the C16-C21 ceramic capacitors. Mouser no longer sells the Xicon 140-500N5-XXXJ-RC 500 volt ceramic capacitors called out in the parts list. Looks like my choice in ceramic is to go to a 1000 volt part. Mouser also has 500 volt silver mica parts available. I'm wondering if anyone has a recommendation on which to use or if I should be looking at a different part?

Thanks
DonB

Dang, cheap HV C0G/NP0 caps are not to be found. Here are my subs:

qty 2...C16,C17...27pF...75-561R10TCCQ27
qty 2...C18,C19...33pF...75-561R10TCCQ33
qty 2...C20,C21...18pF...75-561R10TCCQ18

The lead spacing on the board is .25" so look for that if trying something else. Silver Micas will be fine. And thanks for the heads up!

Thanks Shannon.

On another subject, I'm wondering about the various tube brands. The parts list calls for JJ, but I see a lot of other brands out there such as Sovtek, Electro-Harmonix, Mullard reissue, etc. I'm going to be using the amp with a pair of Klipsch Heresy I's if that enters into the equation.

These days I really like Electro Harmonix. Cheap, and tests match the old datasheets - all I can ask for. ;)

I am starting my first order of parts with Mouser, for my new ST-35 kit. Starting with the resistors...

Mouser shows no stock on 281-33K-RC. That is the only one on the current list they do not have.

Is there a part I can sub-in from them, or should I just look for it elsewhere instead?

Thank you,

I found this equivalent part number on Mouser: 66-CMO13302JLFTR
Will this be suitable?

Yes, that will work. The only "gotcha" with some subs is the footprint size, but these are only slightly longer (12mm vs 10mm) and will fit A-OK.

Hi Shannon,
Part # 571-14376645 is out of stock at Mouser. Do you recommend any specific alternatives?
Thanks!

It just occurred to me that it is only out of stock and not discontinued - I'll wait for it to come in.
Cheers!

Buy a bigger one and cut it down to size. They look fine after filing ...

Several resistors I got from Mouser show half the power rating on the package, than is specified in the BOM. The part number is the same on the package and the BOM, but those that are shown as 1/2 watt in the BOM are shown as 1/4 watt on the package description. Likewise for 1/4 watts that show 1/8 watt on Mouser package.
Is this a cause for concern? I’m a newbie and of course don’t want to ruin my ST-35.

Thank you!

Big concern, contact Mouser about getting the correct replacements
