I've been using a pair of Audio Nirvana "Super 8" full range drivers in a set of Tom's "Model 1" back loaded horn enclosures. They are reasonably large, even for an eight inch driver. The speakers themselves have Dave's magic "EnABL" dots on them... I can't say for certain if they help, but I'm willing to believe they do.
Prior to these, I ran a set of Fostex FE-126 in Saburo cabinets. Before that, it was Klipsch Chorus II. The Klipsch sounded good, but I was always too aware of the crossover. The Fostex/Saburo removed the crossover sensitivity, but didn't quite have the same extension. The AN8 seem to get most of that back, and have a more natural presentation than the Fostex.
Long before that, I had a pair of Canadian manufactured Paradigm 7se Mark III. They have relatively simple crossovers and an easy drive requirement that performed well with most all of my tube amps. They were no slouch, but were eventually displaced as they weren't quite as much fun to listen to as the others.
"It's a different experience; the noise occlusion, crisp, clear sound, and defined powerful bass. Strong bass does not corrupt the higher frequencies, giving a very different overall feel of the sound, one that is, in my opinion, quite unique."
