Worst case I had was 9 weeks, but that included two weeks of sitting on a custom's official's desk as a paper weight ;)

Cheers!

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.

I've had as "Fast" as four weeks from order confirmation to taking delivery. Worst wait times would be around the holiday season, especially the weeks around Christmas and New Years, they might close up the shop for a week or two. (b) (wine) (d) (cig) (c) (eat) :o) :{)

UPS ground delivery usually takes no more than seven days (5 business days) anywhere in the "lower 48" CONUS. Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Europe will definitely take longer, and cost more $) . Not including long weekends, holidays, snowstorms, space alien invasions, and other minor inconveniences :'(

I got my Edcor shipment, it was about 6 weeks, but for the price and quality I ain't complaining!

Anyhoo, it looks like the B layout for me, the PT is just too wide between the bells.

Started punching and drilling today and noticed the plating peels rather easily. :'( Appears to be a manufacturing "rework", maybe I can peel it all off and it will look ok, or at least good enough to paint.

Is that one of the Soundtastik (?) unpunched MK-III chassis ?
I was wondering how tough they would be to work, I never
had much luck working on anything plated.

It looks cool ... hopefully you can keep it chrome.

Apparently not much chrome plating going on anymore,
government regulations have made it tough for little guys
and the big guys can't be bothered with little jobs.

Yep, that's what it is! I found it on e-pay several years ago for real cheap, $10 or $15 range. It's no harder to work with than any Hammond steel box.

One possible source of chrome plating might be the local custom motorcycle shop, if they don't do their own chrome plating, they send it out to a plater, , and could hang a chassis or two in the same batch as their motorcycle parts. It won't be cheap, but the workmanship and quality will be excellent (love)

Harley riders LOVE their chrome, and they want it thick and shiny :))

What you might try, is to cover the chassis top and sides with the blue "painters" masking tape, and do the marking and drilling with that on the chassis, and then peel it off after you're done. It should protect the chromw plating form any scratches, and it is a LOT easier to mark than the bare shiny metal. The advantag of the blue tapeis that it peels off very easily afterwards, and doesn't leave sticky resiidue like the white masking tape does.

Well no such luck, it's peeling pretty bad. Some of it came off with masking tape, some flakes when I drill or cut, and it's razor sharp!

I guess I will scrape, peel, grind the rest off and paint it. The bottom cover still looks good so maybe it will be a nice contrast. On the good side, this 9"x9" size seems to fit this project nicely!

The hand brake button ring on my Honda is peeling too,
I got a few cuts before I peeled it off.

I see the new Soundtastik chassis are matte black,
it's good to see them back on eBay.

A properly done chrome-plating job on steel requires electroplating on three layers of different metals, first nickel, then copper, then the chrome, otherwise the chrome will peel or flake away from the steel base (or motorcycle parts). Each successive layer has to be "compatible" with the layer beneath it, or else it won't bond properly

There are also some interim acid cleaning baths involved in the process, but I don't remember them all.

Apparently new environmental regulations about "heavy metal disposal"
have made it financially impossible for the small shops to do
plating anymore. I guess they were the ones flushing the stuff
into the public sewers or something.

I also didn't know until recently that car washes are required to
have elaborate water-recycling equipment. That's why when
there is water rationing, car washes are exempt.

I finally got most of the plating off, there's some thats stuck and is real thin. Then I gave it a nice coat of self-etching primer an will let dry a couple days.

The finish coat will be either wrinkle black or a Hammertone silver or black. There's a Hammertone red but nobody carries it! Bottom cover will still be the nickel plate finish.
