Heater question

Postby johnf » Sun Jun 16, 2013 4:22 am

I am building a 36watt amp and am using a reclaimed tranny. It has only enough power in the 6.3v winding for the 4 EL84's.
The original amp had a plus and minus 12.6v DC supply for electronics and 4 x ECC83's
I am using one leg of that 13-0-13 winding to give 12.6v AC for 3x ECC83
Should I virtual centre-tap both heater windings to ground (would this work?) or elevate the 6.3v to pin 3 (cathode bias) of the EL84 as many builders do (like Ampmaker) and CT the 12.6 to ground?

Thanks
John

Sorry for the slow input here, John, but I've had great success with both methods. On the second method I would connect the CT to the cathode bias.
