Power amp for bass guitar

Postby coolhandjjl » Fri Feb 22, 2013 3:04 pm

I have a tube preamp fed into ss poweramp for my bass guitar. Most of the big tube bass amps run 6L6's and are really pricey. Anyone consider using a pair of Dynaco MKIII power amps? Would the rigors of stage use fry it?

I've done it. You should be fine.

Cheers!

IIRC, Sunn amps used a MKIII as the power amp section, in some of their amps.
The preamp, tonestacks, etc, were on a separate chassis mounted at the top / front of the cab.

Hi...I built quite a few Dynaco Mark111 for use as a guitar or bass amp back in the late 60's.Could never blow these things up unless the bias shifted or was adjusted wrong.I used bias them to almost class B.A bit more distortion but it sure increased the life of the output tubes..............Regards COOL C.
