Audio or Linear

Postby kt88pppamp » Sun Dec 18, 2011 4:37 pm

Hello,

I am restoring an old fender Bandmaster amplifier. It uses is the AB763 circuit. The schematic does not clearly denote what pots are linear or audio taper. Does anyone know?

I am having to replace the pot because the stupid owner glued on the knob when he lost the setscrew for it. Now I have to cut it to get it off! Oh well, he is paying me to do it.

It is the treble knob for the normal input. Also I need to know what all the other pots are in case I need to replace them for other reasons.

Thanks

I think that they are all audio taper. Though some fo the tone stack pots may be reverse audio taper ?

Angela Instruments has a good write up on Fender pots here:

On Fender schematics, if the value is suffixed with -A it's an audio taper (log), -L means linear and -RA means reverse log. Usually the tone controls are 250k log, volume controls are 1M log. The 'vibrato' speed pot is an oddball 3M reverse log, but Fender used enough of them that they should be still available.

Between Angela Instruments and Antique ELectronics Supply, you should be able to find all teh pots and controls you will need for the restoration.

Great thread, guys. Had the same question a week ago while building a Fender 5E3 clone using a modded Ike board for a friend. I used a 1M log for the tone pot just because that is what I had on hand.
