Ampeg b15 clip indicator

Postby ioginy » Fri Dec 17, 2010 9:43 pm

Good day all. I am building a slightly modified clone of an Ampeg B15 for a friend of mine who wishes to play an electric double bass through it. I got to thinking and figured it would be a good plan to have some sort of clip indicator, but can't for the life of me figure out how to do it. Mostly beause I don't know where to start, and the great internet world seems to be very lacking in the way of information when it comes to a little LED clip indicator in a tube amp.

If anyone has some ideas, I woould be very grateful.

Thanks,
Cory

Cory,
Maybe you could use something like this or like this in a modified form.
Or try some searches for a comparator circuit.
You may need some "weighting" to slow things down a bit to "catch" the peaks.

*nods* I ran across those while looking, and figured they might be useful to modify but was hoping someone had a quick, simple method. Ah well, no rest for the diy'r. Thanks for the reply none the less, I very much appreciate your help.
