Mesa Boogie MKII speaker question

Postby Newbietube » Thu Mar 04, 2010 6:57 am

Hi all, Ive just been given the above to service and repair. Its arrived with a blown JBL speaker and the owner wants to relace it with the orginal Electrovoice. The question is does anyone know what model EV would have been fitted to this amp? Any info would be gratefully recieved.

My best guess would be an EVM 12L but that's just a guess.

Mesa Boogie MKII speaker question

Postby Gasman » Tue Oct 12, 2010 12:37 am

I am the original owner of a Mesa Boogie Mark II-C+ manufactured 7/84. The standard Boogie speaker of the era was a Mesa Black Shadow which was made by EV. It even has the Electro Voice labeling at the bottom. As I recall, it is essentially just an EV 12L with Mesa's branding.

You could also get JBLs as an option, but I think that the Black Shadow speakers were the best sounding in Boogie's open back 1-12 cabinets of that era.

I think that Mesa Boogie still sells the Black Shadows.

I hope this is of some help.
