Here's a little something I've been working on for almost 2 years. See if you can figure out what it does!

looks like a preamp that blends from clean to overdrive.

+1 on the preamp that blends between OD and clean. You've also got an NFB loop on the V3A stage with a lowpass filter. Is that to remove fizz from the OD channel?

Nice graph paper!

It's a mixer, the low pass filter is to keep the feedback loop gain low at high frequencies, it's good design that I learned in my op amp days. There is an error in the schematic tho; the 330pF cap should be 33pF.

You can find the graph paper at Lee Valley.

Hmmm, I did a similar (in hybrid) for my bass. Sounded great!

Bet this sounds much better being all tube.

Cheers!

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.

Technically, it is not a preamp in that the output signal is the same amplitude as the input. Observe:

this would work nice in your Viper (toolbox).

I am thinking of incorporating it into all future builds. I have something very exciting in mind for my next build. A couple of people have asked about a guitar head and I have just the box to put it in:

I'm thinking 50 watts, a couple of 6L6s...

I have a similar old case in the cellar. I was thinking "power supply" but yours is a much more noble appl;ication.

BTW, be wary of that "transformer infestation" on the floor - they can replicate like hampsters, and take over the house before you even know it! ;-) I know it's true, I have all sorts of oddball trannies which I don't remember where / whence they came from.

infestations

transformer infestation is almost like gnome encroachment in your back yard from your neighbors yard.

it is easily handled with a self feeding/extracting 1500 horse power chipping/shredding mill hammer (i might suggest Ingersol). ;-)

So I finally decided to put the distortion box on a proper chassis:

It's been a while since I've done this, so I hope not too many mistakes. The Bass-O-Matic in the background is for reference, it is one of the quietest amps I've ever built so I want to replicate it as closely as possible. Even after all these years I still don't know what makes one amp buzz and another quiet, so I try to copy my successes and hope for the best.
