This was built to use as the house amp at The Times Changed High and Lonesome Club. So it gets everything from upright to Muckbucket to whatever electric the bassist brings along.

Very nice job Don ! Can I ask you what tool you use to install the "rivnut" (threaded inserts) on the chassis bottom ? I hate sheet metal screws and want to get a tool. I see them on eBay, just looking for an experienced opinion.

Out here in the west we call them "nutserts" and I use a pair of vicegrips to install them. Not the best and I had to ruin a few to get the hang of it. Basically, squeeze them very gently a little at a time and make sure the hole is the right size. These are 8-32 but I keep meaning to go to 10-32, 8-32 is a little thin for these big amps.

The Hammertone Viper ended up doing a header into the ditch this summer during a road trip to Alberta. One broken resistor lead and four bent chassis screws was all the damage (also some "patina")

Old Joke: Back east they call it premature ejaculation but out here in the west we call it havin' a fast gun.

There is a nice tool on eBay for $ 99, and the guy sells all sizes of the Nutsert / Rivnuts ... it would beat vice grips ... I don't know if I'd use it enough, but I hate the bottoms of chassis held on with sheet metal screws.

I bought the Nutsert/Rivnut tool and it came today ... I put 4 of the 6/32's in the bottom of my 6EM7 PP amp for the bottom plate ... very cool and professional looking. I hate sheet metal screws. That's how I judge quality of broadcast equipment I work with - if they hold it together with sheet metal screws or not. Yellow_Light_Colorz_PDT_16

Sorry Ed, I just noticed your question. The amp is fed into an Ampeg 8x10.

Beautiful work on this amp. Is that a 6SN7 peeking out from those power tubes? If so, is this an Eico-style driver setup?

That chassis looks to be about 18" x 8" x 2", no? I really wish Hammond offered an off-the-shelf chassis in something close to this size.

This just what I'm looking for. What kind of circuit? Is there a layout for the illiterate or schematically challenged? Iron. A BFA is on the list. Great looking work. You got sound clips going? Thanks, Len

I stole the phase invertor unabashedly from http://www.aikenamps.com/

under:
Designing Long-Tail Pairs - The Load Line Approach

it used a 6SL7.

I'll try to post the schematics.
