Need help on deep clean/polish of PAS3X knobs and faceplates

Postby zebrostripe » Fri Apr 01, 2011 10:35 pm

Any good procedures for this? I've got a PAS 3X with a lot of age. It looks like it'll clean up real nice, but I don't want to do any damage to the finish... Thanks!

Toothpaste and a scrub made mine shine OK.

Cheers!

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.

There are two types of faceplates and three types of knobs.

Be careful on the faceplates, the brass type will scratch easily. On the aluminum plate sometimes water or cleaners will melt away the lettering so be careful.

Brown plastic knobs- soak in 409 to remove knob fungus.
Machined aluminum knobs - toothpaste works great as Geek mentioned.
Plated pot metal knobs - toothpaste again to clean. Polishing these ain't gonna help any, what you see is what you get.

Thanks for the tips. I think my knobs are the machined aluminum type and the faceplate is aluminum. I was wondering about the lettering so thanks for the heads up. Fortunately the faceplate is in good shape-- the knobs are what are a bit grimy. I'll give teh toothpaste a try. Thanks guys!
