Mathematically, it's a wash. You'll get fewer volts off the lower tap, but that's balanced by the lower feedback resistor. I guess the feedback signal will be more intimate with the motion of the speaker, but I'd be surprised if my self-admitted tin ears heard a difference.

A manual will say anything to help sell the product. I believe the series II also brags about their different driver tube being better than that of the original Dynaco's. This is also a crock.
I have the distortion analyzers on hand to make the checks and have found no distortion differences between the 8 ohm tap and the 16 ohm tap.
Have heard no sonic changes either.
