Scratch Build ST-70

Postby dhuebert » Thu Apr 01, 2010 7:10 pm

I've been collecting parts for my garage amp for a while now and got a chassis from Antiquekid3 a couple of days ago. It's scuffed and some extra holes drilled so perfect for the garage:

I immediately bolted everything I had to it. I'm going to have to make some mods like puting an IEC connector on the back and proper binding posts etc but it's a start. This is going to be fun and I will document the whole build so wish me luck!

BTW My garage this winter. Mines the one with the bonnet off.

I think the chassis should be painted the same colour as you car and mount two small headlights in the preamp holes after all it is a garage amp .

Hmmm, paint it the same colour as the car, hmmm. That would be Honda CRV San Marino red. Hmmm. I like it!

NICE! I love it when a plan comes together!

Generally I hate drilling extra holes in classic gear except for adding an IEC power connector, it's worth the extra safety factor, plus most IEC cords are sheilded.

This one came with some extra holes drilled also "patina" so I didn't feel bad about my modifications.

Hey Don! Glad to see it all came together! I guess the red light is just a pilot light? And what kind of pot did you use on the front?

I should have gotten more of these when they were cheap!
I used them in a pair of Poseidons.

The red light is a pilot light.

The pot is just an Alpha from tubesandmore.com. I'm not one of the golden ears set who believes he can hear the pot.

Now that the weather is starting to turn, I'll go in the basement and start soldering.

Appears to be a tad heavier current GZ34:

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.

Seems to have oval plates, where the GZ37 has flat plates. Looks kinda like a 5C3S.
