Cap Board

Postby Hotsauce » Tue Mar 09, 2010 7:25 pm

So, I bought a power supply board for my ST-70 on ebay.

It has silkscreened on it:

"MAKE IN USA"

Gotta love Engrish.

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.

I remember, from back in the 1960s, that there allegedly was a city in Japan named "Usa" and that they would make the claim that various products (usually cheap plastic radios and cameras) were "Made in USA"

I don't know if there is any truth to this story, or if it was just an early version of an urban legend.

Perhaps those fine quality manufacturers in China have also discovered within their own nation a mythical town named "Usa"...

Anyhoo, it's at least a better, more imaginative ploy than selling whimpy weak 5AR4s marked "Election tube, Made in Chian"

(I know, I've used and abused this one many times, but it's still my favorite living example of "Engrish"

Well, there is a place in Japan called Usa! And it's been there longer than the USA has been the USA... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usa,_Ōita).

Maybe that's where your board was made...? ;)

And in some special instances, English doesn't translate well into English. Take, as an example, this warning sign at the Penrith railroad station in the UK.

Don't stand too close to the platform edge, or....

I've heard stories of those uninhibited British railways ;-)

Cheers!

I've used Cyrus Chong's cap boards and they are excellent, high quality items. No problems there...

Chian=local spelling for Cheyenne, WY... some of those old election voting machines probably do use tubes. no hanging chads with those machines.
