LM334Z available

Postby tubes4hifi » Thu Jan 24, 2008 11:13 pm

if anyone needs the LM334Z part for the ST70 board, Mouser seems to be out of them until late April 2008.
I have an extra 2 dozen of them available, will let them go for $1.25 each or $3 for pair including mailing cost.

Thanks for this service, Roy.

The LM234Z is a lower temperature rated substitute that has made it into the diytube ST70 BOM before, but Mouser is out of them, too. Not sure what Digikey's minimum order policy, but they have them in stock for those that like Digikey.

Dumb Question

Postby Vince » Fri Jan 25, 2008 11:22 am

Newby/lurker/oldgoat question. I went to the Mouser site and don't really understand what I'm reading. Is this item sort of a "bridge rectifier plus a CL-90" kind of thing? Would it make sense to use it to replace a selenium
rectifier in an old receiver?
Thanks, Vince

Vince:

No. The LM334Z is a transistor used, I
think, as a current source in the diy
ST70 driverboard.

What you need to repair a bias circuit is a
silicon diode, such as a UF4007, IN4007,
or a fancy hexfred.

That is, unless you are trying to replace the
power supply rectifier. In that case, you will
need to find equivalently rated silicon
diodes to replace the old ones.

The LM334Z / LM234Z is a current regulator IC that also serves as a very accurate temperature sensor, as it has a fairly linear response to temperature variations.

Page 21 of the Eiclone manual http://www.diytube.com/ike/IKEREVB.pdf

explains this particular device's function.
