Dimensions of power switch opening?

Postby joeriz » Thu Aug 02, 2007 9:26 am

Does anyone know the dimensions of the power switch opening on the rear of the ST-70 off the top of their head?

Also, what rating is needed for this switch?

Thanks,
Joe

Putting the ruler to it, it looks like 5/16"
wide and 9/16" long. But, it is rather
dark in my room now, so take the
above as an approximation.

I would say 125V@5A should be
a sufficient rating. The specs for
the switches are not given in the
manual.

If you are building from scratch,
why not use a toggle, rather than a
slide switch? No need to cut out
a rectangle, just drill and go.

Thanks much.

I'm actually looking for a toggle to fit in the original opening for the slide switch!

I think your chances of finding anything but another slide switch to fit that hole are rather slim but here is a link to all kinds of switches.

Thanks, Mesherm.

I think this would fit the bill, no?

Here is the exact slide-switch replacement:

I do not think the toggle will fit without enlarging
or altering the cutout.

A 1/4 inch diameter toggle will probably fit the hole if you like a round peg in a square hole. I usually prefer DPST or DPDT so that I can switch both incoming AC lines off. That completely disconnects the line from the amp however a SPST switch will work as long as you use it on the "hot" AC line and not the "neutral".

Heavy duty AC slide switch for the ST-70, Mark III etc.

Postby Bob01605 » Sun Aug 19, 2007 4:55 pm

I did some research on the switch issue about 6 months ago. I wanted to make sure that customers got from me a quality power switch that fits that original slotted opening. I have used over 20 of these switches >> the 1623 switch from CW Industries which is carried by Mouser Electronics.

http://www.cwind.com/SwitchPDFs/Catalog1/PowerSlide.pdf

The 1623 switch looks from the outside just like the original switch but the contacts are real heavy duty and are rated at 16 amps @ 125 volts. Overkill ?? - maybe - since the fuse blows at 3 amps anyways. It's a lot nicer than the original power switch that all the ST-70's and Mark II's came with and is rated for 100,000 duty cycles.

Wow, Bob -- looks like a neat option. Thanks. Had I known I may have gone for one of those.

As it is, I did finally just decide to go with an 'original' from Dynakitparts. I'm going to put a 0.02uf cap across it and be done with it. The originals did last for quite a few years so it should be just fine.

Thanks,
Joe
