hammond PT missing a lead

Postby parabellum » Sun Jul 15, 2007 2:45 pm

I bought a hammond 372JX from antique. I started wiring of my ST70 clone today but where its schematic calls for a grn/yel to go to ground for the 6.3v tap there is no such wire on the output side BUT there is one on the input side.

Could they have wired it wrong? What the heck do I do now?

A lot of times, the manufacturer will put the center tap through the "wrong" hole because that's where the tap is on the bobbin. Most power transformers aren't interleaved, so the tap location is dictated by the winding, rather than the winder.

Insulate the HV leads, hook it up, and measure the voltage. If grn~grn/yel hields half the voltage of grn~grn, that's yer tap.

yeah thats what I did and yep they missed the hole.

In the process I found out that the power jack that I planned to use to plug the power cable into don't work so it worked out well. :)
