st70 clone with UTC power tranny

Postby kheper » Thu Apr 12, 2007 7:27 am

How does the following transformer look
for an st70 clone or a stereo kt88 amp?

http://cgi.ebay.com/NOS-UTC-S-42-Tube-A ... 15QQrdZ1QQ

The 300ma limit does not seem sufficient for
4 x kt88. And, the 525V tap seems a bit too
high for an st70 clone; the multi-cap cans
are out.

It's definitely excessive for an ST70. If you go with choke-input DC PSU fltering, the B+ can be reasonably lowered for use with KT88s or 6550s.

The ST70 power trannie is 370-0-370 VAC, the UTC is 155V to 230VAC over that...

I'll waget this chunk o' iron will fetch some serious $$$ for the seller...

This power supply went for $102. I lost,
as usual, by $2 at about 19 seconds before
it ended. I did not REALLY want this tranny,
as I have no outputs suitable for kt88s and
the 300ma capacity does not seem
sufficiently robust for a stereo kt88 amp.

eBay tip ...

try esnipe.com -

You can set it to automatically bid 6 seconds before the end of an eBay auction, and you are free to change your mind up to the last minute. You can also bid on a group of the same item, and it will stop bidding when it wins one for you. One of the good things about using it, is that it doesn't alert anyone that someone is interested, so it avoids bidding wars. Put your maximum in and sit back and wait. It costs very little to use, you just buy some points up front and renew every once in a while. They do need your eBay password so they can bid for you, which scares the Internet Timid. I've been using it for a year or so, it really helps get some good deals. It will also send you an email alert I think 90 minutes before the end of an auction if you've been outbid already. You can then up your bid or fahgettaboudit.
