Dumb question about ST70 "Series 2"

Postby Uncle Ned » Fri Mar 02, 2007 12:20 pm

I should know the answer to this but it's been so long since I poked around inside one that I don't remember! Do the boards for the original ST70 fit in the reissue "Series 2" models that were sold in the 90's? Thanks!

Boy, I feel a bit funny answering your question, but...

I'm not sure I fully understand what you're asking but if you mean would the original ST-70 board be a drop-in in the Series II my guess would be 'no' since the Series II had the entire circuit (power supply included...not just the driver as on the original) on one large pcb. I'm guessing that the holes for the original board would not line up with the chassis holes on the Series II.

Of course I'm sure you could make it fit somehow as I believe the overall chassis dimensions are the same.

Hope that helps,
Joe

Well, I've been suffering from some brain fog due to overwork (16 hours
at the polls on Tuesday, for one thing) and a bout of stomach flu... I
mean, I spaced on today being a Lent Friday, which in this neighborhood
is akin to living in Disneyland and not noticing Mickey Mouse. But I came
to after noticing that everyone in the cafe was ordering the fried catfish
for lunch.

That's what I thought. Had someone ask about boards for the Series 2
models, I've only fiddled with a couple of those and it was quite a while
ago, just wanted to double-check before I answered. Thanks for the help!

'the Series II had the entire circuitry placed on
one double sided military spec printed circuit
board made of epoxy fiberglass.'

'the original ST-70 was hard wired, except for
the driver circuit which was factory prebuilt on
a phenolic circuit board.'
