twisted pair question...

Postby jeffdavison » Sat Jan 06, 2007 3:40 pm

How critical is is to "twist-pair" the leads to the choke and "twist-pair" the center tap leads from the 6.3v transformer outs to the caps?

I've twisted the 6.3v heater leads from the power transformer as well as the plate and screen leads from the output transformer.

In y hast I didn't twist-pair the choke leads or 6.3v c.t. leads.

Am in deep doo doo ( re-doo ) or can I get by?

Hi All,

Of all the leads to forget to twist, Jeff, you picked the two that are least affected by twisting. Unless you're working with a choke-input filter network, the current going through the choke is predominantly DC, and the heater winding center tap is going to be at (or near, depending on how creative you get) ground potential. If you were building a laboratory reference amp, stuff like that can make a difference, but in an amp that you're probably going to experiment with a little anyway, the choke wire twisting issue isn't going to be a back breaker.
