Best sounding output trannies

Postby Andrea80 » Mon Dec 04, 2006 6:08 am

Hallo all,

which are the best trannies for ST-70 clone?
- Hammond 1650N (as Eiclone)
- Dynakitparts
- Triodeel

I am confused about them.
with Hammond I would have the opportunity to try Eiclone in the future... Yellow_Light_Colorz_PDT_30

Thanks,
Andrea

Hi Andrea, and welcome to the forums.

Maybe not much help here:

1) Hammond 1650N - Not too fair a comparison as this is a 60W output versus the A470 @ 35W. Definitely can do things that the A470 can't. I like their sound and they test well.

2) Dynakitparts Trannies - I know nothing about these, unfortunately.

3) Triode's Dynaclone A470 - The one I tested a while back looked pretty good.

Hi guy,

many thanks!

yes, hammond 1650N has more power capacity than A470.

With hammond I have to play with feedback cap-resistor?
I don't have oscilloscope and I think is difficult without it...

Edcor should get a mention, I'm a fan of theirs. They do custom jobs no problem, and they are very inexpensive.

I have a hunch that the Dynakitparts and Triode OPTs come from the same manufacturer, at least they look so identical as to to be the same

I used 1650Ns and 274BXs on my Ikes (375-0-375 @ 175 mA) with great results.

I can tell you you without a doubt that our transformers do not come from the same manufacturer as dynakitparts transformers. Ours our made locally here in chicago for us.

Would a pair of A431 sound better than A470 in a ST-70?
(specifications seems similar, except power-rating)

So I recon you mean; yes...?
Is this because it is a better trafo, or just because the power-overhead?
Is there other "common" trafos that will give the ST 70 an upgrade?
