Wanted - BIG Transformer 600-0-600 300ma+ to 850-0-850

Postby Pyre » Tue May 11, 2010 1:06 pm

I am looking for a beast of a transformer. I am not too picky about much but it has to be at least 600-0-600 300ma+ but can make something up to 850-0-850 work. I am running a Stancor PC8414, 600-0-600 200ma right now and my 866A's flash to the beat so I need some more juice. Bigger the better, the amp is already a team effort to move so weight is not a issue.

Let me know if you have anything that may work for me. Shipping is going to suck as I am in poutine land but my amp is suffering.

"Poutine Land". Had to google it. Amazing. Will be in Michigan in June,
I'll have to see if I can find a place that serves it. Ought to be fun!

Will 800 volts at 1/2 amp work? Wire the two secondaries together to make your virtual center tap. Sorry about the sixteen pound shipping weight.

They also have a 650 volt version, with a slightly higher current rating.

"It's a different experience; the noise occlusion, crisp, clear sound, and defined powerful bass. Strong bass does not corrupt the higher frequencies, giving a very different overall feel of the sound, one that is, in my opinion, quite unique."

Thanks guys,

I think 6bg6ga's PC8414 may be the way to go. I can dual mono the power supply and have juice to spare. I am running the cathodes at 82ma right now but would like to go up to 125ma and see how it sounds.

Thanks for the offer of the UTC GC-429 but I think it would still be cutting it pretty close. That CG-421 on the next line sure looks interesting.

I looked at the Anteks when I first started building the amp but have no experience running 866A's though a virtual center tap.

6bg6ga I will PM you my email address and we can work out a deal.

Thanks!
