UL taps

Postby EWBrown » Thu Apr 15, 2004 10:43 am

Do these output trannies have the UL screen grid taps on them? I have some older Fisher and HH Scott OPTs that do not, but they are still excellent OPTs.

actually the HKs look slightly different than the photo I posted.
These are from a TA3000 receiver which has the identical amp circuit as the A300, a well known and regarded power amp.
HK used a voltage doubler with a resultant B+ of 360VDC to power four 7408 tubes (6V6, similar to EL84 but octal, bigger glass).
Since it was used in a receiver there is actually more current available, and two sets of 6.3V filament windings, one with 2.6A and the other with 1.6A.
The power trans is 3.75 x 3.0 inches, and requires a cutout in the chassis (as shown in the photo).
The OPTs are 2.25 x 2.25 with added side wings for mounting (they look similar to the Hammond 125).

another nice set of Harmon-Kardon transformers

Postby tubes4hifi » Sat Dec 11, 2004 3:15 pm

looks like this PreBay area of the forum isn't getting much action, but I've got another nice set of the identical HK transformers available, these are really nice and this time I'm gonna let a lucky buyer take them for $60 plus shipping (about $10) until the end of the year, when I'll post them on Ebay if there are no takers.

HK transformers

Postby tubes4hifi » Sat Dec 11, 2004 3:17 pm

BTW, for those that don't know, these are identical to the transformers used in the well regarded HK A300 amplifier, only difference is this power transformer has more current capability since it is from a receiver that powered many more filaments.
