actually, I don't know the amperage of those beefy car batteries but you could probably use a DC-DC conversion circuit to get up to 8000 volts. I think i've seen a few really really big boxy industrial capacitors that go that high, but the amperage is a toughie - maybe you can use a "rug" of fast diodes (stack a bunch in parallel and wave solder either side :D) to rectify. Once again for the filaments another DC-DC convertor would be cool, and at least the capacitors aren't a problem. Get a few dozen of those 12,000uF capacitors, should do the trick :D.
if you ever find yourself with a) a spare warehouse to keep all the batteries and b) more money and time than God then go for it!
(btw solder buzz is in full steam, kind of like other things but a BIT more worrisome 0_o)
