30,000 watts Single Ended Triode

I need a couple of filament transformers for my next project.
Each one of these needs 6.3 Volts at 160 Amps.
HV will be about 8,000 volts at 10 amps for the pair,
the stupid things aren't very efficient ! Yellow_Light_Colorz_PDT_21

well if you start buying a LOT of old, identical microwaves, magic could happen ;) get a few in series for the B+, and run a few the other way around and you'll have boatloads of amps into a small voltage, you could probably string a few together to get 6.3v :D

Wonder how many car batteries it would take? Gives a new meaning to cranking amperes. Die Hard audio experimenters we are.

actually, I don't know the amperage of those beefy car batteries but you could probably use a DC-DC conversion circuit to get up to 8000 volts. I think i've seen a few really really big boxy industrial capacitors that go that high, but the amperage is a toughie - maybe you can use a "rug" of fast diodes (stack a bunch in parallel and wave solder either side :D) to rectify. Once again for the filaments another DC-DC convertor would be cool, and at least the capacitors aren't a problem. Get a few dozen of those 12,000uF capacitors, should do the trick :D.

if you ever find yourself with a) a spare warehouse to keep all the batteries and b) more money and time than God then go for it!

(btw solder buzz is in full steam, kind of like other things but a BIT more worrisome 0_o)
