Tube replacements

Postby Simo » Sat Aug 29, 2015 1:02 pm

Hi all!

Totally new to to this, but hoping one of you may be able to help me. I have recently purchased a Palace SA-80s tube amp. It's an older model from the 60's which was what I was looking for to give me a warmer sound on the music I listen too.

Due to the age of the amp, and the fact this is my first "tube" amplifier. I am not entirely sure how it should be sounding (???) the bulbs appear to have black coating at one end, I'm not sure if this is a sign of a damaged one or indeed if that's how they should look. I was also hoping I could replace the original tubes. They are a model called Ten 30A5 x1 and Ten 12ax7

Any info or help would be great.

Thanks

if you cant find a 30A5 , a 35B5 or 35C5 , could be made to work but the sockets would have to be rewired .

The name TEN is a brand name , black tips are OK , you might need to recap the amp at its age .

Hi, thanks for the reply!

I'd like to replace the tubes with the same models as the current ones have been in there since the start apparently. The only problem is I can't find any, I wouldn't know where to start with re wiring it.
How would I go about finding out how to change the caps? Sounds like that would be a good place to start if the tubes ARE in good shape!

Thanks

The "Euro" version of 30A5 is HL94, I don't know of any Russian or Chinese current or recent production equivalents.

If I remember correctly "TEN" is a Fujitsu brand name.

This amplifier is single-ended Class A Pentode, good for approximately 2 watts each channel.

Thanks! That's a big help regarding the tubes. Here a picture of the inside of the unit. Which parts are the capacitors that would need replacing?
