Dropping B+ substantially

What would the ramifications be (or not) if I were to use a voltage divider to drop B+ to the OT on a Fender amp by 100v using cement 5w & 10w resistors? It's an experiment, so if there is something drastically wrong with the idea I won't do it. I'm getting 538v with all tubes in place and I'd like to lower it to 450v.

Nothing wrong with the idea at all! If you have a Google at "Power Scaling", you'll see this is one method.

Make sure you lower your screens as well, lest you lose them. You also might want to measure the bias now and adjust it after for the same anode dissipation, or you're going to distort earlier.

Cheers!

What is the B+ supposed to be? Is the 538VDC past what the filter caps are rated for?
I worked on a freind's Vibrolux Reverb so now I'm slightly getting into guitar amps.
