A spark plug boot is a great idea, though I've gotten zapped by touching one when the engine revved. I was thinking of glass as the insulator - to make it look like something resembling retro-telephony, but smaller and a hole through one side of it.
I used a wooden dowel to make a few. It wasn't easy, and I'm sure the wood, at some time will crack, but man is it cheap to make. Probably be better to use in on 6F8Gs than 13GB5s. That's high voltage multimeter lead, and there's a brass contact inside.
I made some anode caps from white Teflon for a 6BG6 amp a long while back. Teflon is easy to work with but a bit pricey if you have to buy some. I made these from some 1" diameter bar stock left over from a work project.
