Chassis hole for 838 813

Postby DeathRex » Wed Nov 20, 2013 8:24 pm

I got the jumbo sockets in for the 838, look to be 2" hole is required, I have 5 hole punches but none are that big. :( Then there's the 813, I have the socket and tubes, but they look to be more like 2 3/16" or so. At 2" and above chassis punches are expensive.

I wonder if a hole saw would do it. Otherwise, you could scribe a circle, and drill small, tangent holes all around the circumference.

Do you have any tapered reamers large enough (at least 2 inches)? You could punch a 1 7/8 inch hole then ream the last 1/8 of an inch out.

The biggest punch I have is a 1 1/2". One thing I was thinking of is some of the rings that VT4C.com makes.

I could just use a jigsaw under the plate and screw it down. He has them for pretty much all sockets except the 813.

I tried using a holesaw for the GU-50 sockets. The center drillbit kept getting loose and wollarded my holes into ellipses. But I might be able to clamp a piece of wood to the aluminum and drill into the wood to stabilize the holesaw before going into the aluminum. But it would probably mess up my drilling accuracy.

Found some nicer carbide hole saws at ebay $16.75 53mm from Chian.

If they work well I'll get a set of them.

Diamond bits are only $7.99

I use a set of Bosch bi-metal hole saws for holes that big. Drill the plate from the back, because if they hop out of the hole while drilling, they'll make a loving mess of your top plate :'(

Cheers!

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.
