The problem with loctals is that they are difficult to pull out of the socket. Maybe they were good in airplanes or battleships where vibration or shock might loosen a regular tube?

The germans had a tube where the pins lock, like the one in my avatar. That one is for the kriegsmarine.

I have used 7F7s and 7N7s in a few amps but I modified the center connector on the loctal sockets so it was easier to remove and replace the tubes. It was actually easier to pull them then 6SL7s in some Chinese ceramic 8 pin octal sockets I've used.
