Max B+ voltage on the Edcor CXSE

Postby DeathRex » Sun Jun 09, 2013 8:31 am

I asked Brian at edcor "What's the highest voltage a CXSE25-8-5K can take? " He said "Remember that P=E2/R. The would give the highest voltage you should be putting in at 25W. But the coil has a brake down voltage of over 800V."

I keep seeing people use $1000 Tangos, even Pete Millet uses a Tango on his 813. I know Edcor's work, because Geek uses one, should I get a CXSE24-8-10K or his custom made EM0074-CXSE? What's the difference, other than 1K.

(I'm working on two projects while waiting on parts to come in, 811A and right now I'm leaning toward 813 because I can't find any 838s :'( )
At first I wanted to be a ET. Now I are one.

I found 5 places that have them, but 2 didn't have any in stock (the 2 cheapest), I emailed 2 more and am waiting, and the $100 838. Ebay only has 1 for display, that got me worried. Chinese 211s are cheap, but I've only seen one review and it wasn't good.

I did not bid on these, these are for you! so, (y) go ahead and bid before the 3-days that are left expires and someone else wins the auction!

The OPT's can handle the B+, they just had no intentions of making the power transformer again (RMS vs. Peak and all).

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.

For an 813, a 5K primary impedance is as low as you want to go. Millet's Tango is 5k, however.

My pick for the 813 is a CXSE25-8-6_5.

Millet used the two windings of a (175Vac) 225VA Piltron toroid in series for his doubler. 1 per channel. He claimed to get ~1000VDC. But, his B+ after filtering, dropping and loading was 800Vdc.

Antek sells a 320V 400VA toroid, which - with the windings in parallel - should be good for a stereo 813. Not as much dropping needed to get to 800Vdc with the Antek, than the Piltron.
