Edcor transformers

Postby coolhandjjl » Sun Apr 28, 2013 2:16 pm

The Edcors look nice with their blue powder coated bell housings. If I was building a Clementine amp where I planned on using those cool brushed aluminum or black rectangular transformer covers, would I be wasting money on fancy looking Edcors? Any plane jane ones with similar quality to consider that may cost less?

Similar quality to Edcor, but cost less than them?

Edcor is the least expensive of the good transformers - there's only one way, up, for price.

In my opinion, you have to pay AT LEAST 50% more anywhere else to get the quality of the Edcors. But don't tell them...

You can get black or plain (unprimed) endbells from Edcor for their iron.

The logo isn't even a sticker... it's just adhered by pressure and peels of real easy.

Can you get plain endbells in place of the blue?

There must be companies in USA that sells "loose" belle nds.
I buy from a German company - www.fragjanzuerst.de.
In many cases the end bells can be dismounted and repainted.

I remember reading recently on the Edcor forum that while they will not substitute, they do sell the bells separately for reasonable cost in plain or black or gray colors.

I got a set of endbells from http://ramsales.net/ His prices are good, but ship times can be long. Best thing is you can get endbells to convert edcors cx to horizontal mount.

Nope! Tom's right, they have to be purchased seperately.

It's easy to swap them though... just be *very careful* with their SE iron and chokes. If you pop the "I" lams loose from the "E", you'll have to epoxy and reclamp, or it'll "sing".

Cheers!
