Power supply umbilical connectors?

Postby Blair » Thu Mar 21, 2013 8:26 pm

What does everyone use? Around 250-300V with four conductors for filaments also.

I see some using CB mic connectors, but is that safe? The pin-to-pin distance looks good.

Any suggestions on the cheaper side?

Thanks!

5-pin DIN connectors depending on manufacturer (quality) are good for 250-300V and up to 2A of current for filaments.

Cheers!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/310579984658?ss ... 1497.l2649 I bought two of these for $10 each , checked on them again and the doubled the price right after I bought the two of them

Will be using them for a preamp , and let everyone know the quality , the 6 pin version looks nice also for $7.88 .

Mark,
Thanks for the info. I've been looking for umbilical connectors also. I just ordered 4 of the CX-Series-5-pin. I like that they are rated for 500v. They look like old Amphenol copies.

I'll post my impressions after they arrive on the slow boat from asia.

Blair,

I used CB mic connectors several years ago for an umbilical cord connector between my PS and my first tube linestage project, a Welbourne Labs hybrid linestage, for the B+ and filaments. This has been used since the mid 90's without any problems, but I wouldn't do it again or recommend it. The voltage ratings for the connectors are too low.

Thanks guys!

I had already ordered the mic connectors. Not sure if I will use them or not. My B+ is around 215V when loaded, so it isn't like some of the high V preamps.

I received my CX-5 Series connectors last night. They seem to be very good quality. My only complaint would be the pins are a little small compared to Amphenol. Also, I got mine for $5.41 apiece but right after I bought them the price doubled.

Still a good deal at that price.
