socket recommendations

Postby nyazzip » Fri Mar 01, 2013 8:31 pm

looking to order some highly functional and easy to mount, top-of-chassis 8 and 9 pin sockets, for mostly "vintage" tubes(if that makes a difference). not interested in collars or retainers. any recommendations? low price is nice but i don't want garbage that will corrode next week, or allow my tubes to fall out, or the leads won't accept solder/break off if i look at them wrong, etc....
looking for maybe a dozen of each. USA/canada location preferred.
normally i'd just go ahead and order, but i just looked at Tube Depot's list and i got a bit overwhelmed at all the choices

At tubedepot, I do not think you can do better than Belton:

http://www.tubedepot.com/sk-b-vt8-st.html $3.95

http://www.tubedepot.com/sk-b-vt9-st-2.html $2.95

A little less for ones born in CHIAN:

But the shipping from .ca to the .us might make up the difference.

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.

On ebay, you can find NOS Amphenol octal sockets for cheap(er). Two listings below. There is a seller who seems to have cornered the market on NOS 5pin sockets for 807s, etc., but I cannot find his ID.

I recently ordered some sockets for some magnovals for 35 cents a piece at http://www.goodcomponent.com/ They about doubled in price with shipping but still inexpensive. They got my order right and was shipped here in about 10 days as I recall.
