Chokes Re-dux

Postby leadtower » Tue Oct 17, 2006 12:35 pm

Sorry to post twice but I think I should be more clear in my question. I have an Eico ST 40; nice sounding integrated amp using 7591's. I am re-building it for the den and in the process I have replaced the filter cap cans and now I am thinking maybe there is a way to sub in a choke for the 1800 ohm 5w resistor that follows the input filter cap. I am not sure how to go about choosing a value of inductance and current. I was wondering if there is a rule of thumb that addresses this kind of swap. Thanks for any advice.

make sure that the choke can handle the current draw through it. as for henries, bigger is usually better. ohms are really up to you. the only limitation is space and money. where would you put it?

Thats a good question; I had thought to drill two small holes in the top plate and mount it there. I have decided to try a dry run and just sub it it first without mounting it and see what happens.
