Tubelab SSE KT-88 Amp

A new customer wanted me to build an amp for him, and he had good Edcor iron, an XPWR010 power transformer, a pair of CSXE25-8-5K outputs and a CXC100-7H-150mA choke. A google search lead me to the Tubelab website and boards, the SSE board is for KT-88 and the like, with a 12AT7 driver. First time around for me with Tubelab, the owner and designer George is very friendly and shipped the boards right away, I always buy 2. It went together easily, although there is not an easily printable manual, just dozens of color pics on web page upon web page, every resistor has it's own picture. First time I ever built an amp in front of a computer. I'm not a fan of a tube amps with electrolytic capacitors near hot tubes, so i built the board with the heat sensitive components on the bottom, away from the heat. Also, the board is also not symmetrical at all, the tubes are kind of helter-skelter. Rectifier in the front, driver not centered. Also no holes in the center of the tubes on the circuit board to use the PC board as a template (I made my own holes) Enough whining, the amp fired right up and sounds really good. For anyone looking to build a Chubby Clementine type amp, this is a very nice alternative, although much bigger and with (or without) a tube rectifier. Sorry the pictures suck, the sun was too bright on 1/2 of the amp, and I didn't check them until later. If you are interested in the board, or it's DHT brother, check http://tubelab.com
