Old "mystery" radio - trying to restore.

Friend of mine gave me this old wooden radio, AM BC Band 5-12 MHz SW. No manufacturer's marking, or model numbers.
Five tubes, plenty of rust, dust, cobwebs, a few "loose" wires, and just a hint of dead bugs and mouse pee aroma.
I was told that it works, with a fair amount of hum, and the volume control is scratchy. I'm almost afraid to plug it in =:o (stop)

Here's a question for ya, the screws holding in the varicap - square or slotted?

If square, a Canadian Rogers, Marconi or Chisholm chassis is in there ;)
That power transformer has a Hammond look to it....

*edit*
I'm rebuilding an old Rogers Majestic at the store and the speaker has the same wood grille style and cloth on it.
