DC on output of preamp?

Postby Blair » Tue Nov 12, 2013 2:09 pm

I've got a preamp I did recently that has measurable DC on the outputs. Is this common? Honestly, I've never checked before. Just seems odd with a coupling cap in place.

Thanks!

Never mind:) I was measuring it unloaded. I dropped a 10K resistor across the outputs to ground to load the preamp and it dropped to between .0-.2mV DC.

Thanks!

Some CD players will park +12V on their outputs. Why I *always* have a DC blocking cap on the input of my gear ;)

Cheers!

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.

Sweet Jesus! That'll take out a front end.

I was running it through a cheapie Sony receiver and yesterday one if the channels dropped out and then the other which made me check the preamp over. Then I looked at the back of the receiver and it said 8-16 ohm only. I suppose it did not like my 3.2 ohm speakers. Poor thing died for no reason.

Out of curiosity, why is there DC fluctuating from .1-1mV DC with no load, but 0-.4mV with a 10K resistor across the outputs.

Thanks!
