Fun preamp project

Postby Blair » Fri Oct 25, 2013 8:36 pm

I was cleaning out clutter the other day, and found enough bits to build a preamp that I have wanted to build.

It's a 6111A SRPP circuit, recycled amp chassis, I used an old receiver transformer with a doubler to get B+ and another fairly beefy looking winding for filaments. Then machined the hole to the left of the faceplate for a nixie channel indicator. I cannot photograph it for some reason, but it's very cool and retro looking.

Sounds very nice!

Nice work and creative - bravo! Where'd you get the 6111As?
That power transformer looks like it's from a scrapped SS 100W power amp. Handy sources for magnet wire, too.

Hi Shannon,

The 6111A tubes came from a buddy. He took in between 50-80 of them for some repair work. Handed me a fist full and said, "have fun". Same source for the nixie, case and power transformer. Yes, the power transformer is from a Sony receiver. I'm debating rolling it out for a toroid I have. It has some mechanical vibration during operation.

I'm probably going to redo it all on that perf board using Phoenix connectors for easy removal.

Thanks,

Blair
