My Latest KT90 Burn

Postby kt88pppamp » Sat Jun 22, 2013 8:14 pm

Hi All,

Of the several burns I received from power output tubes, the latest perpetrator was a KT90 in my PPP amps that I am rebuilding with a new driver. I was tweaking the bias pots and phase compensation when the side of my wrist bumped into the hot tube. There was no pain, but the burn started to blister today. It still does not hurt but is unsightly.

I feel electric shocks and burns are just part of the business. If you have any cats, make sure you build your amps with cages over the hot tubes. The dog may bump his tail into an exposed driver board, so a cage should go over that too.

What are your all's experiences with this stuff?
-Ice cream is irresistible.

-Spaghetti and salt is irinductable.

-Artichokes are ircapacitable.

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.

I usually burn myself with the soldering iron. Done it over and over.
Worst shock voltagewise, I got screen voltage from a TV picture tube. And got 220 across my thumb, left a mark. :(
At first I wanted to be a ET. Now I are one.

The thing is upside down. The phase compensation pot is 12:00 of the 12BH7. I need to stick my big hand between the push KT90s and that area to adjust it. The mini screwdriver did not catch the pot immediately so my hand bumped V4 which had been on for 15 minutes. Luckily no pain but a big ugly blistering red mark about 1/4" in diameter is there.

For a moment, I thought you had some cool glass legs for the amp :)

Got bounced once while repairing an old o-scope. I vaulted over the workbench behind me and landed on a concrete floor. Didn't get as much as a scratch!
