Eico ST-70 volume pot

Postby DeathRex » Wed Mar 06, 2013 2:30 pm

I've moved onto my next project, a Eico ST-70. I already have the big mod printed out from tronola, and I'm starting to get parts together. I can't find a new volume pot for it. It's a dual 250K, 3/8" mounting hole with knurled shaft, audio taper. No tap, nothing special, but I can't find one. So I've been thinking of using a alpha pot that I have sitting here, and making the round shaft into knurled. Has anyone tried this?
At first I wanted to be a ET. Now I are one.

Making a round shaft into a knurled sounds like a project in itself.

Why not use the alpha pot with a knob that fits until you can find a replacement?

I've done it and its not "that" bad assuming you have a bench clamp and a good file. I just took the Alpha and slipped it into the bench clamp at the level I wanted to shave off and filed it down. Most good claps are hardened pretty well and you should not do too much damage if you have a steady file hand.

I'd be careful with "Alps" pots off Ebay.... they are commonly counterfeit :/

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.
