...but as someone else pointed out, tubedepot has them at more earthly prices. $2.25US isn't too far off for a 600v 0.22uf cap is it...? i rarely order stuff so i am not up on prices

One is under the CDE brand at $8.67 and the other is Vishay Sprague @ $5.45! Country of origin is still in question. It looks like the orange drops need to head up to the snake oil section.

Just for s#!ts and grins I looked up the address of the "factory" these supposedly come from and it looks really small, as in there can't be much machinery inside.

Well, the tube depot orange drops (at least from the images) correspond to the Sprague "marking format". Below, see the encircled "Z" preceding the "715P600V".

Sprague (page 6):

The tubesandmore orange drops are billed as series 716, but I cannot see the markings. Who knows? The 715s (or the 716s) probably all sound the same, regardless of manufacturer or price. You could try the Solen "fast caps", even though Geek doesn't like them. Solen "fast caps" have been both praised and damned.

The photo prompts a question. Why is there a crimp in the leads? Is that for stuffing into a printed circuit board? It is actually a detriment for usual point-to-point wiring. Try slipping a piece of spaghetti insulaton on the lead.

I believe, though, the crimp might have been there before Sprague became essentially kaput, succeded by various unknown Asian suppliers. But since, Sprauge (and therefore "Orange Drops") are now rather meaningless names, perhaps my question is silly to ask. But I do think that spending an extra penny on "Sprague Orange Drops" is a waste of money.

The Sprague/Vishay 715P orange drops have the crimp, but just because tube depot's image has the Sprague "marking format", it does not follow that a buyer will receive what is pictured. The prices for orange drops will decline on other sites if (or when) the supply (from whichever manufacturer) increases.

I would contend that there is no "Sprague." It is long gone, along with "Orange Drops." It's all generic Chinese.

I just bought some of those from Mouser a few months ago and the "CoO:" (Country of Origin) labeled on the bag was United States. Maybe it was a typo.

Thanks, I was mistaken in saying that Orange Drops were made in Asia. Sorry.

But, I still don't like that crimp in the leads - nor the quasi-radial leads. Totally not point-to-point wiring friendly. You can't easily slip on spaghetti insulation and the leads usually have to be bent back 90 degrees to go between two points. What was Sprague thinking?

maybe they are crimped for some specific and wildly popular commercial PCB design...? anyway i can custom bend any shape/or straighten out any kink easily, using 2 pair of needle nose pliers, one in each hand. good to know they are USA; i will keep buying them

It makes little sense for Sprague's to be lower in price than CDE's, unless CDE is not ramping up production of orange drops until Sprague's old inventory is sold. Thanks to 20-20 for the link which - sorta - clarifies things. In the future, the prices should drop.

Meh, wouldn't hold my breath.

CDE makes silver mica caps that went from $0.68 to $7 in a few months $)

Isn't the 715P series the latest evolution of the Sprague wax paper caps? First the wax caps, then the plastic "bumblebee" caps, the brown radial lead caps from the mid 1960's, then the orange drops??

The Tube Store in Canada has Sprague/Vishay 715P .1 uf 600V caps listed at $2.50

I pays to shop around, I guess.
