Next Project: SE 6CB5A amplifier

Postby dividebytube » Sun Jan 20, 2013 7:27 am

I've been casting my eye around for another amplifier to build. I really loved the 12J7 pentode driver -> 1625 pentode unit I just completed. I'm still planning on selling it, but I'll really miss the fast/snappy sound that surpassed my expectations.

I found this post on the 6CB5A

and the idea of doing a triode amplifier struck my fancy. It's actually been eight years since I last heard one - a fully regulated SV83->300B amplifier I built. However, I wasn't keen spending big dollars on DHT tubes so the 6CB5 looks like an interesting alternative. I won't use this power supply - instead I'll stick with a tube rectifier and a separate choke for each channel. Budget will be semi-low with Edcor iron, Triad chokes, Nichicon electrolytics, KOA resistors where possible, and C-D coupling caps. More later!
