If anyone is interested there is a good buy on Ebay on a Stereo Speaker Protection DIY Kit for $9.90 plus shipping.

I ordered two of these and they arrived today. I put them together and promptly tested them. They sense DC fault and they provide a 2.5-3.0 second turn on delay and decay immediately upon turn off.
