JJ EL34 brown base

I know of someone who has some JJ EL34 tubes for sale with an (earlier) brown base and wanted to see if anyone knows of these. This person also claims the brown base tubes in question are somehow more prized and sought after. Does anyone have information on these tubes?

thetubestore shows http://thetubestore.com/el34review.html that the earlier JJ EL34s had problems. I am trying to sort out whether or not I should get these he has for sale or pass if there might have been problems with them.
