I could have guessed that (sick)
Pics stores on the forum server are appearantly only see-able by forum members. :(

When I'm back from Morocco, I'll see what I can do. Anyway, the guy did build a TV-set, composite video in, with a REAL TV-tube and else just tubes in the mechanism, together with a wooden box and 3D-printed details.

Grundic Majestic M87 USA AM/FM Radio

Postby EWBrown » Mon Mar 27, 2017 10:36 pm

I was just given a Grundig Majestic 87 USA AM/FM table radio. Needs a bit of work, though the cabinet and front panel are in decent condition.
Interesting "minimalist" design, it uses only three tubes, for a complete superhet circuit. ECC85 front end, EBF89 If Amplifier / Detector and ECL82
audio. It is well worthy of restoring, I'm aiming for a near-total recapping, and the dial cord is broken. Looks to be 1959-1960 vintage.

Looks similar to this example, but the case is brown instead of ivory color.

Cool! (y)

Seen a few of those recently under various brands. Recap, replace a few out of tolerance resistors usually covers it. Have yet to have one with a bad tube!

I have seen people who sacrificed a (bad) octal tube to house an USB-memory stick. I just wonder how to separate the glass tube from the socket and access the glass tube's innermost delicate area (i.e. nip off the bottom, let the vacuum out and dig out the electrodes and stuff something else inside).

You can usually find a loose tube, and just a bit of twisting back and forth, break the leads and separate the two. Sometimes you have to stick it in a pot of warm water for a while.

Have to find a "spare" tube at first, or sacrifice a 6SL7. Actually I would need a bunch of tubes I can sacrifice as I propably won't end up with a loose glass tube at first trial.
