Actually, they do work for high-dissipation tubes.

But most don't know the tricks of:

1) Add heatsink goop - Increases transfer ratio. Makes tubes ugly, but....
2) Add a drain wire to ground (signal or chassis) for low-level tubes (Mic, RIAA, etc)

The black anodized work best. But Jon isn't an audiophool, so he must have tested them ;)

Walnuts have a darker tone, so I prefer pecan shells. Ear wax dielectric, naturally, as everyone knows bees are tone deaf. Extra fee for wax from your region of the world, or use the DIY pecan capacitor kit to save $$$ (note that kit includes only shell and parts list).
