7591a in Parallel Push-Pull Configuration

Postby rca7591a » Thu Apr 17, 2008 5:39 am

It is my sincere wish to construct a 7591a based amplifier with parallel push-pull output stages.

I gave some thought to this some time in the past.

Some things that stood out were:
Most of the prepunched chassis available didn't have enough holes for the output tubes.

Potential power supply restrictionns may only allow this to be done as monoblock style units.

How to confgure the phase splitter?

Williamson stage configuration maybe?

$$$.

Is 80-100 watts really necessary for decent listening?

Not if you have efficient speakers. My ST-70 puts out more volume than I will ever need. They are connected to a pair of B&O S75 speakers.

Twice the current and half the primary impedance

The driver / phase splitter can remain the same, as the output tubes draw little or no g1 current.. The OPT should have about half the normal A-A primary impedance as for a single pair, and the total B+ plate current will be 2X as much as for a pair. Ulness you can use a HUGE power trrannie, monoblocks are the way to go with this. This also solves the potential hernia or back injury problems :o

An alternate approach would be to use REAL 7027s, just stay away from the Sovteks, they're probably just "tricked up " 6L6s (just like their 7591XYZs).

I am pushing a pair of Cerwin Vega 308SE's with my Fisher X202B.
40 watts provides a decent level for listening I guess.

I saw some serious Hammond iron while looking into what transformers would be required.
