My Little Darling Amp Part 2

Postby Sal Brisindi » Sat Mar 08, 2008 7:56 pm

Today I completed my Darling amp based on the schematic from Tom McNally's website. It took about 5 days to put this together. I used a smaller Hammond chassis, 10"x6"x2" and had enough room without component crowding.

The amp worked first time I plugged it in, I didn't let any smoke out! The Radio Shack speakers shown are not efficient at all and the amp sounds nice and loud enough for something that is only 3/4 of a watt. I will try it on my 96db Cerwin Vega's D5's tonight.

I tried to utilize the screws already used to hold the terminal strips but had to drill 2 holes on the side to bolt the choke in place.

Here is a photo of it.

Regards,
Sal

Very neatly done, Sal! Great use of space. So, this is your first time you've heard the Darling play? It's pretty amazing how loud it gets, evidently even with not terribly efficient speakers. I found out the other day that my KEF 104ab monitors are about 88 dB/W/m. They sound just fine with Darling amps. -Min

Thanks Min,
I actually built this amp to sell it but...... Yellow_Light_Colorz_PDT_02

It looks so cool!

I have to build a 2nd one and sell that one instead :-)
